Welcome

The Tartan

Tartan is a patterned cloth consisting of crisscrossed, horizontal and vertical bands in multiple colors.  Tartans originated in woven wool, but now they are made in many other materials. Scottish tartans usually represent a clan whilst Irish tartans usually represent the county or region where a clan originated.

The Chivalric Fraters tartan is a tartan for all Sir Knights. The colors are symbolic of Chivalric Masonry in the United States:  Black represents the Grand Encampment and Consituent Commanderies; Earth, the earth from which we spring from and return to; Red, the blood of Him under whose banner we serve; Gold and White, the Sir Knights who make up this Valiant and Magnanimous Order.  The Red Cross is symbolic of all of the crosses present in Templary and the 4 bands that
form it represent the 4 Orders of the Chivalric ritual.

A Scottish Crest Badge is a heraldic badge worn to show allegiance to an individual or membership in a specific Scottish clan.  Crest badges consist of a crest and a motto/slogan. These elements are heraldic property and protected by law in Scotland.

The Knights Templar Crest Badge has the Cross and Crown as its heraldic elements.  The strap and buckle circlet represent loyalty to the the Order and the  motto, “IN HOC SIGNO VINCES” translated is “In this sign shall we conquer”.
